At Camp Widjiitiwin we have two great directors: Mike Moose Greenfield is the general director and Josh Heyoo Laverty is the camp director.
Moose is on the Leadership Team at Muskoka Bible Centre with the position of Director: MBC Retreats & Camp Widjiitiwin. Plus he works on marketing strategy and process. He is responsible for our Ignite partnerships, visioning, yearly tactical plan, camp pastors, donations, marketing, Widji blog, budgeting and foodservice.
Heyoo is the Camp Widjiitiwin Director. He is responsible for the daily running of camp. He started in 2017 when Moose went on sick leave. He is responsible for daily summer operations and program, staff hiring & supervision, program oversight, maintenance, SALT, Aspire, social media, graphic design, brochures and website. Shared responsibilities will include capital projects.
Moose started camp work at 16 mucking out stalls, he has worked at both small & large camps and in almost every area of camp work. Whether it’s helping in the kitchen, teaching rock climbing to SALTers, leading/mentoring staff or leading staff prayer, Mike has a heart for camp ministry and the Kingdom impact it can make in each person’s life.
Mike has been married to Elaine for 32 years, has three grown daughters, two sons-in-law and is now grandpa to Olivia, Logan and one more expected in September. His favourite colour is blue. He likes country music and wears cowboy boots. Mike’s favourite food is most anything off the BBQ. His hobbies include woodworking and building things at home. Mike’s mission is to develop students to become the next generation of Christian leaders. Widjiitiwin is the perfect place to do this leading summer staff, SALTers and campers!
His favourite quote is, “You can always cut open the apple and find out how many seeds are inside, but there’s no way you can cut the seed and find out how many apples are in it”.
Heyoo returned to Widjiitiwin after many years and brought a wealth of camp experience including leadership development, marketing, promotion, social media, video, discipling and mentoring, outdoor skills and photography. Josh was a student at Summit College @ MBC and has apprenticed as a carpenter, pyrotechnician and photographer.
He ran the SALT program at Widji in 2016. Josh has run his own media company and is a published author of the novel The Mōdis. Josh is married to Beth (Cebue) and they have two great kids Malachi & Jessica.
